The Caves, Temples and Ghats - 15 Nights / 16 Days
Destinations Covered: Mumbai – Aurangabad - Ajanta Caves - Maheshwar – Bhopal - Jhansi – Orchha - Khajuraho - Varanasi - Delhi
DAY 01 : Arriva Mumbai (Bombay)

On arrival at Mumbai International Airport, Planet Holidays representative will meet you outside customs hall and transfer you to your hotel by private car. Afternoon you will visit Mumbai with our guide. The places to visit are Dhobi Ghat where the city’s linen is washed, drive past Victoria Terminus, Mani Bhawan a small museum on Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to Mumbai, Hanging Gardens, The Prince of Wales Museum and the Gateway of India. Overnight will be in Mumbai.

DAY 02 : Mumbai – Aurangabad By Train
After breakfast you will be transferred to railway station in time to board your train for Aurangabad, situated on the Deccan Plateau and a popular base to visit Ajanta and Ellora Caves. On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel and after check in formalities, do the city tour of Aurangabad visiting Bibi Ka Maqbara – mausoleum of Rabia Daurani, wife of a great Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Also visit the bazaars of Aurangabad. Overnight will be in Aurangabad.(B)
DAY 03 : Aurangabad - Ajanta Caves - Aurangabad
After breakfast leave by car and guide for full day excursion to Ajanta Caves. 106 km from Aurangabad, there are about 30 rock cut Buddhist caves dating back to 2nd century and have the finest surviving examples of Indian Art in the form of paintings and sculptures. These caves were hidden in the thick forest for many years before they were accidently discovered by a British officer during a hunting trip. Ajanta is now UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will return to your hotel by evening for overnight. (B)
DAY 04 : In Aurangabad
Post breakfast leave with our guide to see the Ellora Caves located on an ancient trade route between Madhya Pradesh and Ujjain. There are about 34 caves dedicated to Buddist, Hindu and Jain faiths built in proximity to demonstrate the religious harmony during the period between 5th and 10th Century. On your way back visit the Daulatabad Fort. Overnight will be in Aurangabad. (B)
DAY 05 : Aurangabad – Maheshwar 315 km
After breakfast you will drive to Maheshwar, lies on the north bank of Narmada River. It was the capital of Malwa during Holkar reign till 1818. On arrival you will check in at Ahilya Fort, a fine heritage hotel, founded by Prince Richard Holkar, a descendant of both Ahilya Bai Holkar and the last Maharaja of Indore. Afternoon visit the temples on the ghat and walk on the river bank. Overnight will be in Maheshwar. (B,L,D)
DAY 06 : In Maheshwar
You have the entire day to yourself to explore this beautiful town and centre of handloom weaving since the 5th century. The origin of Maheshwari saris is traced to this town. Afternoon visit Mandu a deserted city located across a broad hilltop, known for its Hindu and Muslim architecture. Overnight will be at the Ahilya Fort. (B,L,D)
DAY 07 : Maheshwar – Bhopal 230 km. 6 hrs.
After breakfast you will leave for Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. The city is spread over the hills and contains two artificial lakes. On arrival you will stay at your hotel for two nights. Afternoon do the city tour of Bhopal. Overnight will be at the hotel. (B,D)
DAY 08 : In Bhopal
After breakfast visit Sanchi, the oldest surviving Buddhist sanctuary and principal centre for Buddhist in India until the 12th century. (B,D)
DAY 09 : Bhopal – Jhansi (Train) – Orchha
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning free for individual activities. Later you will be transferred to Bhopal station in time to board Shatabdi Express train for Jhansi. The train will depart at 1445 hrs and will arrive at Jhansi at 1751 hrs. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Orchha for overnight. (B,D)
DAY 10 : Orchha
Breakfast at the hotel and then explore the 17th century capital of the Bundela Rajputs. Unmolested by the modern world, it is still very romantic place with colossal palaces, tombs and temples. (B,L,D)
DAY 11 : Orchha – Khajuraho 175 km. 4 hrs.
Post breakfast you will drive to Khajuraho, home to some of the most renowned temples of India. On arrival check in into your hotel. Afternoon you will be visiting Eastern and Western Group of temples. (B,D)
DAY 12 : Khajuraho – Varanasi flight
Morning free. Later transfer to airport in time to connect flight for Varanasi. You will at Varanasi by late noon. On arrival you will be met by Planet Holidays representative and transfer to your hotel in town. Evening visit the ghats of the Ganges to witness the Aarti ceremony. Varanasi is undoubtedly the holiest city of India and has been centre of learning and pilgrimage for over 2000 years. (B,D)
DAY 13 : In Varanasi
Early morning after tea/coffee and cookies, you will go for boat ride on the river ganges to see the rituals and prayers on the Ghats of the Ganges. Also visit Bharat Mata Ka temple and Durga Temple. The morning on the Ghats is very colourful and vibrant, must carry your camera to catch memories of lifetime. Afternoon visit Sarnath where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. (B,D)
DAY 14 : Varanasi – Delhi flight
Post breakfast you will be transferred to airport to catch your flight to Delhi. On arrival you will be met at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day free to enjoy the hotel facilities. (B)
DAY 15 : In Delhi
After breakfast full day tour of Old and New Delhi. You will be visiting Qutub Minar, Bahai’s Temple, Humanyun’s Tomb, Governments Buildings, India Gate, Jama Masjid and drive past the Red Fort. While in old Delhi, enjoy cycle rickshaw ride in the narrow lanes of Chandnin Chownk. On way to your hotel visit Raj Ghat the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi. (B)
DAY 16 : Delhi – Home
Depart Delhi on your international flight for home.
