Pushkar Fair is one of the largest cattle fair of Rajasthan and probably the only one of its kind in the entire world. Held every year in the Hindu Colander month of Kartika (October- November) from “Ashtmi” 8th day of Lunar Calendar and continue till Poornima (Full Moon) at Pushkar, a small town in district Ajmer. This year the fair dates are from 2nd till 6th November 2014.

Thousands for people, mainly from rural India, gather here with their cattle and camels for livestock trading. The trading is at its peak in the first half of the festival period, while the last half is more for religious activities, as devotees take dips in the holy Sarovar Lake. This small town during this period becomes the cultural hub when colourfully dressed devotees, musicians, acrobats, folk dancers, traders, comedians, sadhus and tourists reach here. The entire area is transformed into a spectacular Fair Ground, as rows of makeshift stalls displaying range of objects of art to daily utility stuff, decoration items for cattle, camel and women, everything is sold together on the streets. It is great fun to bargain for souvenirs and other handicrafts which are on display. Every day there are various activities going on such as camel show, horse races and different fold dances and music of Rajasthan.

It is so colourful and magnificent that according to the Lonely Planet “It’s truly a feast for the eyes”. Pushkar is a lifetime experience for travellers and is Paradise for Photographers.

A must visit Fair to understand the local culture and life style of the rural folks. This is the fair where you can let yourself free and mingle with crowds and be part of the large Mela.
